Without an SEO strategy, you’ll limit the flow of traffic to your website. This means fewer leads and sales for your business. Understanding and using SEO when writing content makes it easy for new leads to find you online.
In this post, you’ll learn what SEO content writing is. You’ll also learn to develop a strategy around this important online marketing technique.

What is SEO Content Writing?

Content writing refers to publishing information-based articles on the web. The goal is to build a relationship with potential customers. SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO writing involves using keywords, or keyword phrases, in your web content.
An example of how SEO is used in content:
A management consulting firm publishes a blog post about the customer life cycle. The goal, in terms of SEO, is to convince search engines that the article is relevant to that topic. By including SEO keywords related to customer life cycle, the article becomes more relevant to online search queries.
In short, with a good SEO strategy, you’ll be listed higher in search rankings.

Two ways to choose keywords

1. Search for keywords relevant to your niche. Choose keywords with low to moderate competition to inspire your content.
2. Or, instead, decide first what you’d like to write about. Then find keywords with low to moderate competition to write into your post.

Where to find keywords

Use any of the above keyword research tools to improve your SEO content writing. But to clarify, not all keywords are created equal.

Longtail keywords

The more general your keywords, the higher the number of searches. But this also means high competition, which will bring you limited success. When you’re getting started with SEO content writing, it’s best to use keyword phrases with at least three to five words. These phrases are quite specific. So while there will be less searches for longtail keywords, you’ll get more quality traffic and conversions than if you used shorter, general keywords.
